What is CF Kids & CF Teens
CrossFit Kids is not simply a scaled down version of CrossFit, it is entirely and absolutely CrossFit geared towards kids and their specific developmental needs.
CrossFit Kids is the principal strength and conditioning program for many young athletes and the primary P.E. program for many schools. It is used by athletic teams, martial arts schools and many parents that want their kids to grow up healthy, strong and have a life long love of a healthy lifestyle thus avoiding the common problems associated with childhood inactivity and obesity. Our program delivers a fitness that is by design, broad, general and inclusive. Our specialty is not specialising. Healthy living requires that our kids push, pull, run, throw, climb, lift, jump and effectively and safely regardless of whether or not they take part in athletics. Athletics is a specialised pursuit. Our goal is to support the specialist, but reward the generalist. ~ Jeff & Mikki Martin, Founders, CrossFit Kids
Our Ultra CrossFit Kids program is a multifaceted, challenging, socially interactive strength and conditioning program for kids from ages 5 to 17. Our Kids program serves children ages 5-10 and our Teen program serves children ages 12-17. As our children are becoming more and more sedentary and with childhood obesity rising at an alarming rate, there is a growing need to incorporate health and fitness into the lives of our kids. By laying a solid foundation of fitness ideals from an early age, we can reduce risk of disease, injury, and build a better future for our young ones.
Since CrossFit is generalist program, our kids program follows a similar philosophy. We cover the broad skills and movements essential for life and athletics. We strive to make our kids program fun. Every session includes a warm-up, focus work on a basic athletic movement and or gymnastic skill, a short Workout of the Day and games. As with the adults program, we find the universal scalability equally applicable to our younger population. Classes are structured to give our children progressive training in gymnastics and strength training as well as an increase in self-esteem and confidence.
Tues 3:30 – 4:00pm. This class lays the foundations for all future movements that our young athletes will encounter, whether it be sport-specific or fitness related. Our program focuses on a child’s motor and cognitive skills by teaching proper movement in an interactive and fun group setting as well as challenging the children to think about their movement, count their repetitions, remember sequences and work towards goals. Athletes learn body awareness, coordination, and the fundamentals of gymnastics and strength training including forward/backward rolls, headstands, squatting, pushups and sit-ups. A sense of personal accomplishment is encouraged, as well as positive group interaction.
Tues 4:00-4:45pm. Athletes learn more complex movements in addition to individual skill building. This class is structured to provide our athletes with a continuation of fundamental movements, but also introduces more dynamic skill such as handstand forward rolls, different squatting/pressing/deadlift modalities, and pull-ups. More partner and team building drills are included to create a sense of community.
Thurs 4:00-4:45pm. This program will focus on age-appropriate strength and speed training as well as body weight gymnastics strength and skill work, flexibility and balance, agility and conditioning. Our goals for your teen:
Establish a life-long love of fitness
Offer an alternative to sedentary activities
Injury prevention for all athletic and active pursuits
Model and instruct in healthy life choices
Provide the physical and mental strength to tackle any obstacle thrown their way, inside or out of the gym
Build a community of like-minded teens
Have a ridiculous amount of fun
