Staying Fit AND Festive: Keeping Routine During The Holidays

The most wonderful time of the year is here, and as we gear up for festive celebrations, it's easy to let your health and fitness slide. At Ultra, we believe that the holiday season is no excuse to hit pause on your health journey, which is why we are still running classes during the holiday period. In fact, it's the perfect opportunity to embrace a balanced approach and enjoy the festivities without compromising your hard-earned results.

1. Plan Your Workouts in Advance

The holiday season can be chaotic, but a little planning goes a long way. Schedule your workouts like you would any other holiday activity. Whether it's an early morning WOD or a quick session during lunch, having a set routine helps you stay committed and ensures you don't miss out on your fitness goals. During the holidays we'll have workouts throughout the day (make sure to check our schedule in advance to avoid any disappointment).

2. Embrace Quick and Effective Workouts

Short on time? No problem! Opt for high-intensity, quick workouts that pack a punch. Our CrossFit community loves the efficiency of our workouts, and during the holidays, a 20-30 minute session can be just as effective. You can even do a variation of "Cindy" in your backyard! Don't have a pull-up bar? Fine! Grab a towel and perform some towel rows! If you're away from the gym and aren't sure what to do, speak to one of our coaches and we'll ensure you've got a plan!

4. Buddy Up for Accountability

The holidays are all about spending time with loved ones, so why not include them in your fitness journey? Grab a friend or family member and make your workouts a shared experience. It's a great way to stay motivated, and you might just convert someone to the CrossFit life! If you want to bring a friend or a family member to one of the scheduled classes at Ultra, simply let us know in advance so that we can plan our class logistics accordingly!

5. Stay Hydrated and Nourished

With nutrition, Christmas can be one of the most challenging times of the year with excess food and drink on offer, that would just be wasted unless you consume it! Amidst the holiday feasts and treats, don't forget the basics. Fuelling your body with the right nutrients will keep you energised and ready for those intense workouts. Aim for a balance of protein, carbs, and healthy fats to support your fitness goals, whilst also allowing yourself to be a little more indulgent where necessary. Make sure to also keep up your water intake - we are in Australian summer and hydration will play a huge role in supporting key bodily functions - including digestion!

6. Head Outside

Over the holidays you may find yourself away from the gym or unable to make it to a particular class time. Again, we appreciate that the holidays can be chaotic. However, that doesn't mean that you can't get some fitness in. Consider heading outside and doing something away from the gym. This might be a hike/walk, swimming or even something a little more intense such as a run along the beach - depending, of course, on what your plans are. Something is better than nothing and, often, being outside in nature can be just the trick!

7. Listen to Your Body

Finally, remember that the holiday season is also a time for rest and recovery. If you need a day off, take it guilt-free. Your body will thank you, and you'll be back in the box feeling stronger than ever.

This holiday season, let's jingle all the way to our fitness goals! Happy holidays, Ultra CrossFit family – stay fit, stay festive, and let's finish 2023 strong!

Cheers,

Jamie
